Kent Braced for New Covid Rules: Gatherings Slashed to Six
Kent residents are on alert this weekend as fresh Government rules clamp down on social gatherings. From Monday 14 September 2020, no more than six people – adults or kids – can meet indoors or outdoors anywhere in England.
Mass Meet-Ups Now Illegal: Big Fines on the Table
Fancy a big party at the pub or park? Think again. Groups larger than six in private or public spaces will be breaking the law. The new rules carry a stiff £100 fine for the first offence, doubling with each repeat breach up to a whopping £3,200.
Kent Police Ready to Crack Down but Will Warn First
“Kent has had a very good compliance rate with national health advice,” said Assistant Chief Constable Claire Nix.
“But the Government has made it clear the risk of rising infections is too high to ignore. Stricter rules are essential to keep everyone safe.”
“Our officers will continue to engage and explain, using enforcement only as a last resort.”
So far, Kent Police have slapped 127 fixed penalty notices for social distancing breaches. Expect increased police presence over the warm weekend of 12-13 September, patrolling parks, beaches and cracking down on illegal music events and unauthorised gatherings.
Final Weekend to Socialise—But Don’t Push Your Luck
“Some might see this weekend as the last chance for wider socialising before the new rules,” said ACC Nix.
“But Kent Police will keep enforcing existing legislation just as they have done for months.”
“Covid-19 is still a deadly threat. We all must act responsibly to reduce spread and save lives.”
