A tragic discovery was made in Salford today as police launched an investigation into the deaths of an eight-year-old schoolgirl and a 40-year-old woman. Emergency services responded to a concern for welfare call at a property on South Radford Street at around 10:30 a.m., where they found the bodies of both the girl and the woman inside the home.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have informed the next of kin, who are now being supported by specialist officers. A probe is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths, but officers have confirmed they are not looking for anyone else in connection to the incident.
Salford City Council expressed their condolences in a statement: “We are aware of the terribly sad news this morning, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of those who have tragically lost their lives. We are working closely with GMP and assisting with their ongoing investigation. Our teams will be supporting local residents and council staff, who have no doubt been greatly affected by the events today.”
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Greater Manchester Police.
This investigation is ongoing, and further details will be provided as they become available.
