Body Found in Sandwich Waterway Sparks Emergency Response

Kent Police, Fire, and Coastguards scrambled to Rope Walk in Sandwich on Tuesday morning after a road sweeper spotted a body floating in the water.

Coastguards in Drysuits Hunt the Waters

The emergency call came in just after 8:30am, triggering a search by coastguards in drysuits. A fire engine and officer from Kent Fire and Rescue joined the scene at 9:22am to assist Kent Police. Part of Rope Walk was quickly sealed off as tensions rose.

Man in His 50s Pronounced Dead at Scene

A Kent Police spokesman confirmed the response followed a welfare concern reported at 9am on November 29. Officers were joined by South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service. A man in his 50s was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

Kent Police spokesman: “Kent Police was called to Woodnesborough Road, Sandwich at 9am on Tuesday 29 November 2022 following concern for a man in the area.”

Death Not Being Treated as Suspicious

Police say the death is not considered suspicious. A report will be prepared for the coroner as investigations continue.
