Crash Chaos on M8: Police Cars Hit by Mercedes
A nasty smash shook the M8 near Junction 13 at Provan just after 1pm on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. A Mercedes A45 slammed into a stationary unmarked Volvo S90 police car and a Mercedes CLS, both parked on the hard shoulder of the eastbound carriageway.
Four Hurt, Two Serious
Four people were rushed to hospital. Two police officers and two men from the Mercedes CLS were injured. A 48-year-old police officer and a 43-year-old man remain in stable condition. Meanwhile, a 38-year-old officer and a 31-year-old man were treated and sent home.
Three other men aged 27, 33, and 39, who were in the Mercedes A45, were also hospitalised but later discharged.
Police Make Arrests Over M8 Smash
Police Scotland confirmed a 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged with road traffic offences linked to the crash. He’s set to appear at glasgow/" title="Glasgow" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Glasgow Sheriff Court on August 29, 2024. A second man, 33, also faces charges, with a report sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
Road Policing Boss Comments
Chief Superintendent Hilary Sloan said: “My thoughts remain with our colleagues and members of the public injured in this incident. Our officers are being supported as they recover. I’d also like to thank the public for their support and information throughout our investigation.”
M8 Traffic Snarled as Investigation Continues
The crash caused major delays on one of Scotland’s busiest motorways. Police are still probing the incident and promise to update the public as new details emerge.
