Man Arrested Over Brutal Old Street Rape After E-Fit Appeal
Detectives have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with a shocking sexual assault that rocked Old Street back in August 2021. The victim, a woman in her 30s, was attacked after leaving a nightclub in the early hours of 3 August.
From Nightclub to Nightmare
The woman was led away from the club by a man, then driven—possibly in a taxi—to a Hackney address. There, she was subjected to a sustained and horrific attack.
The terrifying ordeal was reported to police months later, on 3 November 2021. Since then, specialist officers have been providing support to the victim as the investigation unfolded.
Linked to Second Assault
On Monday, 17 January, police swooped and arrested the suspect at an east London station. Remarkably, the same man is also linked to a separate sexual assault involving a different woman in October 2021.
Detective Constable Jamie Merrill said: “I would like to thank the public who responded to our appeal. Because of their help, we have arrested a 26-year-old man not only for the initial attack but also for a second serious sexual assault that we previously didn’t know about. Both victim-survivors are being supported by specialist officers. The Met is committed to supporting all victims of sexual offences and bringing offenders to justice.”
The investigation is ongoing as police continue to gather evidence.
