Tragic Landslide in Maharashtra Kills 27, Dozens Missing
A deadly landslide has ripped through the mountain village of Irshalwadi in Maharashtra, claiming at least 27 lives and leaving over 50 people missing. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has now ended its search for survivors, confirming a grim outcome for the catastrophe.
Rescue Efforts End Amid Grim Reality
The NDRF battled tough conditions to find survivors after the disaster struck last Thursday. Despite tireless searches, no more victims were found alive, forcing officials to call off rescue operations. S.B. Singh, an NDRF spokesperson, told Reuters on Sunday: “Unfortunately, our efforts have not yielded any further positive results.” Families of the missing are left heartbroken and desperate for answers.
Village Devastated Near Mumbai
Irshalwadi lies just 60 kilometres from Mumbai, home to a tight-knit community of around 225 people before the landslide hit. The massive rush of earth flattened several homes, scattering survivors and chaos in its wake. More than 80 villagers managed to escape the disaster, but the fate of many remains uncertain.
