Massive Fire Erupts at Pioneer Mill in Radcliffe

A firefighter was seriously hurt battling a massive blaze after part of the building collapsed at Pioneer Mill in england/%%UKNIP_ANCHOR_0%%radcliffe/”>Radcliffe, %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_1%%, last night.

Fire Crews From Three Counties Fight Overnight Inferno

manchester/”>%%UKNIP_ANCHOR_2%%/”>Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) rushed nine fire engines and specialist equipment to the scene shortly after 7.50pm on Saturday, 27 September. Crews from %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_3%% and %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_4%% also joined the emergency response to help control the commercial building fire on %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_5%% Street.

The fire has been extinguished, but firefighters remain on site dampening down hot spots to prevent flare-ups.

Firefighter Injured in Collapse

During the early stages of the operation, a serious injury occurred when part of the derelict mill collapsed on one of the firefighters. Emergency teams treated the injured crew member at the scene before rushing them to hospital for urgent care. Their condition remains serious.

Investigation Launched, Support Underway

GMFRS confirmed a full inquiry is underway in partnership with the Fire Brigade Union (FBU) to establish what led to the collapse. The aim is to learn lessons and boost safety for all firefighters who face extreme dangers tackling such incidents.

Carlos Meakin, deputy chief fire officer at GMFRS, said: "I want to commend our crews and emergency service partners for their skill, bravery, and professionalism during this tough incident. Our thoughts are with the injured firefighter and their family, and we will continue to offer full support during this difficult time."

Fire crews will continue working at Pioneer Mill alongside Greater Manchester Police, %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_6%% Council, and the Environment Agency to ensure the area's safety today and overnight.
