A violent thug who tried to pull his girlfriend’s teeth out with metal pliers and threatened to drill her eye out during a horrific campaign of abuse has been jailed for four years.
Jack Robson, 21, from Leadgate, County Durham, used a pair of mole grips as he attempted to yank out his partner’s teeth. He also forced her to choose the drill he said he would use to gouge out her eye. During their abusive relationship, Robson repeatedly kicked, punched, and bit the victim, causing her to lose consciousness on multiple occasions.
Robson also held the victim against her will, making threats that he would kill her, her family, or her pets if she ever attempted to leave him. He controlled her movements and finances, forcing her to delete all social media apps from her phone and monitor her text messages.
The victim ultimately sought medical help following the assault with the mole grips on May 17 and subsequently came forward to the police. Durham Constabulary’s safeguarding team supported her as she bravely disclosed her ordeal.
Robson was arrested, interviewed, and later charged with intentional strangulation and grievous bodily harm with intent. He appeared at Durham Crown Court, where he was sentenced to four years in prison and issued with a restraining order on Friday.
Investigative Officer Ashley Marsden from the West Safeguarding Team praised the victim’s courage and strength, stating, “The courage and strength shown by the woman has been truly commendable—her support for our investigation has resulted in Robson being put behind bars. The sentencing will not take away the pain and horrific memories of what happened, but I hope it will enable her to start to move forward.
The officer encouraged anyone experiencing similar abuse to come forward and contact the police, assuring them that they will be listened to and supported every step of the way.
Durham Constabulary can be contacted on 101, or 999 in an emergency. Additional support is available through The Meadows Sexual Assault Referral Centre and Charity Harbour.
