Following his death, the family of a boy injured in a collision in Southampton has paid tribute to him.
Officers were dispatched to Hill Lane, near the intersection with Warwick Road, at 5.18 p.m. on Monday (18 July), following a report of a collision involving a Suzuki motorcycle and a VW Golf.
Layton Cashmore, 14, of Hedge End, was the motorcycle’s pillion passenger and suffered serious injuries before being taken to hospital, where he died.
His family paid tribute to him, saying, “As a family, we cannot put into words how much this hurts.”
“Layton truly is one of a kind; with the biggest heart, he left an impression on everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.”
“We will never be the same as a family.”
The investigation is being led by PS Jon Bates of the Roads Policing Unit.
“First and foremost, I would like to express my condolences to Layton’s family,” he said.
“We are continuing to investigate what happened and urge anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dash cam, CCTV, or ring doorbell footage of the incident to contact us.”
“Please contact us if you know who was involved in the collision, or if you saw a moped at the scene and know who was riding it or who was a passenger.”
Three 16-year-old Southampton boys were arrested in connection with the accident. They have been released pending the outcome of the investigation.
