After fatal shots were fired in Birmingham, a murder investigation was launched

A man was killed this evening in Lozells after shots were fired around 6.30 p.m.

The man, who has yet to be identified, received immediate first aid treatment but died at the scene.

Four to five offenders were seen fleeing on foot down Villa Street, according to witnesses.

Two men were apprehended nearby and are being held.

Officers rushed to the scene and immediately began searching the area. Witnesses are being interviewed, and house-to-house searches are being conducted.

We understand residents’ concerns about recent firearms-related incidents in Birmingham, and we’ve already increased patrols to reassure them.

“It is too early to speculate on whether this is linked to any other incident, but our message is clear – we will not tolerate violence in our city,” said Detective Inspector Laura Harrison of our homicide team.

“Another young man has sadly died, and another family will be mourning the loss of a loved one.”

We will continue to conduct regular operations to disrupt and deter violent crime because firearms have no place on our streets. We focus on removing firearms from criminal hands through raids and seizures in gun crime hotspots.

Anyone who witnessed what happened this evening (12 July) or has CCTV or mobile phone footage is asked to contact us via Live Chat or by calling 101 and quoting log 3492 of 12/7. If you have information but do not want to reveal your identity, call Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
