Horror on Vernon Walk: Southampton Man Dies After Disturbance

Detectives have launched a murder probe after 44-year-old Jason Gregory from Southampton died following a late-night public order incident. Jason, from Millers Pond Gardens, was rushed to hospital after a suspected cardiac arrest during trouble on Vernon Walk between 11.45pm on Friday 5 May and 12.45am on Saturday 6 May.

He sadly passed away in hospital days later.

Jason Remembered as Family Man

Jason’s partner, Melanie Stacey, paid tribute, saying: “Jason was a good, hardworking family man and a father to four. Please could anyone with any information about what happened to Jason contact the police. We respectfully request privacy at this time.”

Police Arrest and Appeal for Witnesses

Hampshire Constabulary’s Major Crime Team has been investigating, questioning two men linked to the incident. Today (11 May), a 25-year-old Southampton man was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Detective Inspector John McGonigle urged, “We want to hear from anyone who saw what happened or was near Vernon Walk, 1 Road, and Winchester Street between those times. It was a busy Friday night, so we believe many people may have crucial information or footage.”
