Wicked Thieves targets OAP in Romsey

Police would like to speak to man pictured following a distraction theft in Romsey that took place between midday and 12.15pm on Monday, February 22. The victim, a 79-year-old woman, returned to her home in Oatlands and saw two men on her driveway. They asked her for directions. When they had left she noticed that her bank card that she had kept in her handbag had been stolen. The card was then used at the Barclays Bank branch in Shirley Road, Southampton, to withdraw £2,300. The two men are described as white and as speaking broken English in an Eastern European accent. The first man is described as around 5ft 10ins tall, of stocky build, around 50-years-old, with grey or white hair and wore a light coloured scarf around his neck and a coat. The second man is described as 5ft 11ins tall, of slim build, aged in his 30s, with dark coloured hair that was short and curly, and wore a dark coloured jacket and jeans. Officers investigating this incident have now issued a CCTV picture of a man they would like to speak to about the theft. PC Claire Browne, of Romsey police station, said: “This is a very rare incident to happen in Romsey and we want to prevent it from happening to anyone else. “Please be vigilant with your handbags and purses and do not leave them unattended at any point.”
