The Queen’s closed coffin rests on a raised platform called a catafalque inside Westminster Hall, part of the Palace of Westminster. The public will have the solemn chance to file past and pay tribute during the Lying-in-State period.

When and Where to Go

The Lying-in-State opens at 5pm on 1. It will be open around the clock, 24 hours a day, until closing at 6.30am on Monday 19 September.

Queue Warning: Prepare for Long Waits

If you want to attend in person, be ready for long hours standing, possibly overnight, with few chances to sit. The queue will keep moving but won’t pause for breaks.

Security will be strict with airport-style checks. Only small bags are allowed inside.
