A2 Collision Causes Major Delays: Car Overturned After Being Hit by Lorry

A major traffic collision on the A2 in Kent has caused severe delays, with the eastbound carriageway currently closed between the M25/A282 (near Darenth) and B255 (near Bean). The incident occurred earlier today when a car was hit by a lorry, resulting in the car overturning and landing on its roof.

Emergency services, including Kent Fire & Rescue Service, National Highways Traffic Officers, South East Coast Ambulance Service, and Kent Police, are on the scene dealing with the situation. The car’s overturned position has complicated the clearance efforts, leading to an estimated delay of 60 minutes for road users.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area and follow the official diversion route, marked by the solid circle symbol on road signs. The diversion is as follows:

  1. Exit the A2 eastbound at the Darenth Interchange and join the A282 northbound carriageway towards Dartford.
  2. Exit the A282 at Junction 1A.
  3. At the first roundabout, take the third exit onto the A206 eastbound, then continue towards the second roundabout and take the “fast slip” towards Bluewater.
  4. Stay on the A206 for approximately 2 miles to the junction with the B255.
  5. At the roundabout with the B255, take the second exit onto the B255 southbound towards Bean.
  6. Travel along the B255 and exit at the junction with the A296.
  7. At the next roundabout, keep left to take the fast slip onto the A296 eastbound towards Dover and rejoin the A2 eastbound.

Motorists are urged to plan ahead, consider re-routing, or even delay their journey if possible. The situation is being actively managed, but significant delays are expected until the road is cleared.

Updates will be provided as more information becomes available. For now, road users are advised to avoid the area if possible and to check for live traffic updates before setting off on their journey.
