Car Smashes into Telegraph Pole on Yorkshire Road, Mitcham – Bus Diversions in Place

Yorkshire Road in Mitcham has been partially blocked in both directions this evening following a crash involving a car colliding with a telephone pole.

The incident occurred near Hertford Way, and the juction of Yorkshire Road. Emergency services were called to the scene after reports of a road traffic collision (RTC) involving a single vehicle striking a telegraph or electrical pole.

Driver Fled the Scene

According to early reports, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot, prompting a police response. Officers are currently en route to investigate and manage the situation.

Disruption and Diversions

As a result of the crash, the road is partially blocked, and Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed diversions are in place for local bus routes 152 and 255, causing delays to public transport in the area.

Motorists and bus passengers are advised to seek alternative routes where possible and to allow additional time for their journeys this evening.

Safety Concerns

Due to the nature of the impact – involving what appears to be a telecommunications or electrical pole – concerns have been raised over potential risks to nearby properties. Crews may need to secure the area before the vehicle can be safely removed.
