Ram-Raiders Smash into Surrey Co-op, Snatch Cash Machine in Midnight Heist
A brazen gang of thieves launched a ram-raid on a Surrey Co-op in the early hours, making off with a cash machine stuffed with a large haul of cash. The heist unfolded around 4am on Monday, November 27, at the Cox Road store in Ewell.
Crash and Grab Attack in Cox Road
The raiders ploughed a vehicle straight through the front windows of the shop, smashing their way inside. They ripped out the cash machine and sped off before police arrived. The store remains in lockdown and is heavily guarded by officers as investigations continue.
Police Helicopter Scrambles to Trace Make-Off
Thanks to a tip-off from a neighbour, Surrey Police called in a National Air Support helicopter to track the getaway vehicle. However, the crooks also damaged the shop’s locks, delaying officers’ entry as forensic teams scour the scene.
Abandoned Tools and Crucial Clues Left Behind
In the car park, tools used to attack the cash machine lay abandoned under a plastic sheet. A black stocking mask was found discarded nearby, offering police a vital lead.
“We are part of the community and do a lot for it — it feels like we’ve been wronged,”
said a distressed staff member who asked to remain anonymous. The Co-op will stay closed while building repairs are made and crime scene officers comb the area for evidence.
Police Plea to Public: Help Us Nab the Thieves
A Surrey Police spokesperson urged locals, saying:
“Officers will be patrolling to reassure the community as the investigation continues. We’re working hard to piece together exactly what happened and find those responsible. We urge anyone with information to get in touch immediately. We particularly ask landowners to check their properties for anything suspicious that may have been dumped by the offenders. If you saw anything unusual in the area at the time, please contact us.”
Witnesses or anyone with info should call Surrey Police on 101.
