Eurostar tells passengers not to travel today as unexploded WWII bomb is found

Eurostar has suspended services between London and Paris following the discovery of an unexploded Second World War bomb near the tracks in Paris Gare du Nord.

Disruptions and Closures

Thousands of passengers have been affected as Eurostar cancelled 10 services on Friday morning. The cross-Channel operator has now advised all travellers not to attempt travel today, as further delays are expected.
Eurostar is allowing passengers to exchange their tickets for free for a later date, subject to availability. Travellers are advised to check eurostar.com or the Eurostar app for the latest updates.

France’s SNCF Statement

France’s national train operator, SNCF, confirmed that all services at Gare du Nord would remain suspended until mid-morning at the request of the police.

SNCF added: “We invite travellers to postpone their trip.”

Impact on Eurostar Services

  • London to Paris: 10 morning departures have been cancelled.
  • Paris to London: All services are suspended until at least 12:09 PM.
  • Brussels to London and Amsterdam services: Currently unaffected.

Passenger Rights and Alternative Travel

Passengers can reschedule their trips for free, provided seats are available in the same travel class. Unlike air travel, rail passengers have fewer legal rights regarding alternative transport or compensation.

Ongoing Operations

Authorities have evacuated the area in Saint-Denis, where a bomb disposal team is working to safely neutralise the device. SNCF has indicated that services will only resume once the clearance operation is complete.

For the latest updates, passengers are encouraged to follow Eurostar’s official channels. As the situation develops, efforts remain focused on ensuring safety and restoring normal service as soon as possible.
