Fatal Crash on M25 Leads to Arrests as Investigation Commences

Tragedy struck on the M25 near West Thurrock as a collision between a car and a motorcycle claimed the life of a motorcyclist late on Sunday night. Essex Police responded to the incident, which occurred at junction 30 of the motorway at approximately 11.40pm

Prior to the crash, the car involved was reportedly engaged in a pursuit with Kent Police. Following the collision, two individuals, both aged 18, were apprehended by Essex Police on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Both suspects remain in police custody as the investigation unfolds.

Kent Police, in accordance with protocol, has initiated a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to the preceding pursuit.

The aftermath of the crash led to significant disruptions in the area. National Highways announced the closure of the “southern quadrant of the roundabout” carrying the A13 over the M25. As a result, access to the A13 westbound for clockwise traffic on the M25 was restricted. Additionally, the anti-clockwise distributor road between Junction 31 and Junction 30 was shut down.

Emergency services, including paramedics and firefighters, responded to the scene to assist.

While the lanes were reopened by Monday at 10:30am, the incident underscores the importance of road safety and the need for caution, particularly during high-speed pursuits. As the investigation progresses, authorities will work diligently to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic collision and ensure accountability for those involved.
