Blaze Breaks Out at Abandoned House Near Horam Golf Club

Fire Erupts at Run-Down Property on A267

A blazing fire tore through a derelict house along the A267 near Horam Golf Club on the evening of 2 January 2025. The property, still cluttered with furniture and belongings of its owner who is now in care, made tackling the inferno even trickier for firefighters.

Swift Response from Sussex Fire Brigade

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene at 7:23 PM after receiving calls about the blaze. Three fire engines from Heathfield and Hailsham arrived fast, battling hard to stop the flames from engulfing the entire building.

Road Closed, Smoke Alerts for Locals

Sussex Police stepped in, shutting down a stretch of the busy A267 to manage traffic and keep the public safe. Nearby residents were warned to keep doors and windows shut amid heavy smoke drifting from the fire.

No Injuries as Fire Finally Brought Under Control

Thankfully, no one was hurt during the incident. Firefighters successfully doused the flames and confirmed there were no lingering hotspots. The road has since reopened and traffic is back to normal.
