Watch:Lewisham Standoff Ends as Police Lift Cordons and Residents Return Home

The major police cordon in Lewisham Town Centre has been lifted, allowing residents to return home and roads to fully reopen following a prolonged armed police standoff.

Police End Standoff After Hours-Long Operation

The area had been under lockdown since Monday morning (February 10) after a man was seen shouting and brandishing a knife from a window. Armed police, London Ambulance Service, and London Fire Brigade responded to the incident, with officers negotiating with the man inside the property for hours.

Concerns about a potential hostage situation and the presence of a dangerous weapon led authorities to enforce road closures and evacuate residents from nearby buildings.

Roads Reopen, Residents Allowed Back Home

At 6:00 AM today, police confirmed that all cordons had been lifted and that Lewisham High Street, Lee High Road, Belmont Hill, and A2211 Rennell Street had fully reopened.

“Earlier this morning all cordons were lifted and residents are able to return home. Roads are open.”

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have not yet released details on how the standoff ended or whether any arrests were made. Investigators are expected to provide further updates as they assess the situation.

For now, Lewisham has returned to normal, and commuters can expect traffic flow to resume as usual.

This is a developing story, and further details will be reported as they emerge.
