M27 Closed Following Serious Collision

Officers from Hampshire Roads Policing are currently dealing with a very serious collision on the M27 between junctions 10 and 9 at Fareham. Both sides of the carriageway are being closed to allow the air ambulance to land. Police know that this is a very busy time of the day so we apologise for any inconvenience caused but would advise motorists to avoid the area if possible. Further update on the closures will be made as soon as Possible. We understand that the incident is involving a Heavy Goods vehicle with the driver seriously injured. The HGV veered into a barrier and onto the verge and threw wooden pallets onto the carriageway. The incident happened at about 8am and has blocked the westbound carriageway near Fareham between junction 10 and junction 9. An air ambulance has been called to the scene while police have closed the road at junction 11 and described the crash as “serious. Hampshire Constabulary said the crash involved a heavy goods vehicle and the road was closed in both directions. UPDATE0910:Eastbound carriageway now fully open. Westbound remains closed between junctions 11 and 10. A spokesman for South Central Ambulance service said the driver,a man in his 60s, has been rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham. They also said: ‘We received a call at 07.37am this morning reporting an HGV having left the carriageway and crashed into a barrier/embankment on the hard shoulder between J10-9 westbound on the M27. ‘We sent a rapid response vehicle, an officer, an ambulance and the air ambulance to the scene.
