A terrifying fire ripped through a luxury residential complex in Goodman’s Fields, Aldgate this evening, prompting a massive emergency response.
The London Fire Brigade was called to the scene on Leman Street shortly before 5.45pm, where a blaze had broken out in a fifth-floor flat. At the height of the incident, fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters were battling the flames.
Videos shared on social media showed bright orange flames engulfing one apartment, with thick plumes of black smoke drifting up to higher floors. One flat on the seventh floor was also reported to be affected, LFB said.
Crews from Whitechapel, Shadwell, Shoreditch, Dowgate, Bethnal Green and surrounding stations were mobilised, with a 64-metre turntable ladder deployed to provide a strategic aerial view for incident commanders.
