Major Fire Breaks Out spreading to Attic Self Storage in Barking

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters battled a significant fire at an open-air storage facility and workshop on Ripple Road in the early hours of this morning.

The blaze, which broke out at approximately 4:06am, completely destroyed a workshop and caused minor damage to the fascia of an adjacent warehouse. Thankfully, there were no reports of injuries.

Swift Response

A quick-thinking passer-by noticed smoke and flames coming from the property and immediately dialled 999. This was the first of six emergency calls received by London Fire Brigade’s Control Officers.

Crews from fire stations in Barking, Dagenham, East Ham, and Wennington were quickly dispatched to the scene, bringing the fire under control by 6:52am.

Cause of the Fire

Following an investigation, the cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, resulting from an electrical fault in the workshop.

Official Statement

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson praised the public for their vigilance:

“The quick actions of the passer-by to alert us to the fire ensured our crews were able to respond swiftly and prevent further spread to adjacent properties.”
