Met Police Supporting Family of British National Killed in New Orleans Terror Attack

Metropolitan Police officers are providing specialist support to the family of British national Edward Pettifer, who was tragically killed in the New Orleans terrorist attack on New Year’s Day.

The 31-year-old, from Chelsea, London, was one of 14 victims who lost their lives when a truck, allegedly driven by an Islamic State-inspired attacker, rammed into crowds celebrating the new year in Bourbon Street.

The Met’s Counter Terrorism Command is working closely with international and government partners to assist Mr. Pettifer’s family through the repatriation and coronial processes.

In a statement, his grieving family expressed their devastation:

**“The entire family are devastated at the tragic news of Ed‘s death in New Orleans. He was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew, and a friend to so many.

“We will all miss him terribly. Our thoughts are with the other families who have lost their family members due to this terrible attack. We request that we can grieve the loss of Ed as a family in private. Thank you.”**

The attack, which left dozens injured, has been described by the FBI as a “premeditated act of terrorism,” with authorities confirming that the suspect had planned the assault weeks in advance.

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has also confirmed it is in contact with local authorities and offering support to Mr. Pettifer’s family.
