79-Year-Old Man Held Over Elm Park Woman’s Death
A 79-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead at a home in Elm Park, east London.
At around 9:30pm on Tuesday 2 May, the man turned himself in at a local police station. He told officers a woman had been injured at a house on Cowdray Way.
Woman Found Dead with Head Injuries
Police and London Ambulance Service rushed to the scene. Inside the property, they discovered a 77-year-old woman with serious head injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman’s family have been informed. Both the man and woman were known to each other.
Homicide Detectives Launch Full Investigation
A post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course as police continue to piece together what happened. A crime scene remains in place while the Met’s Specialist Crime Command lead the inquiry.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers said: “Although a person is in custody, this is still an active investigation and we are gathering as much information as possible. We have a family desperately trying to understand what has happened – your information could give them the answers they need and deserve.”
Detective Superintendent Richard Vandenbergh added: “I understand how upsetting this awful crime will be for the local community. We are working with our partners and community groups to provide as much information as we can. Extra officers will be patrolling the area, so please speak to them if you have any concerns. They are there to listen and help.”
