Racist Rage at Shell Garage Ends with Jail for Mark Cunningham
Mark Cunningham, 35, from Thornton Street, has been slammed with a jail sentence after launching a hateful and violent tirade at a Shell Garage on Linacre Lane.
Racist Abuse Sparks Fear and Violence
The trouble kicked off around 7pm when Cunningham tried to swap tampered goods at the counter. The store assistant refused the dodgy exchange – sparking fury.
Cunningham then lunged at the staff member and hurled racist insults, leaving the victim petrified. The shop assistant hid in a locked staff area until police swooped and arrested Cunningham on the spot.
Justice Served – Compensation and Jail Time
After the sentencing, Detective Constable Linda Duignan said: “We share the victim’s satisfaction that Cunningham has been jailed for this disgusting incident. A member of staff going about their business was racially abused and threatened with violence. He feared for his safety in a place of work.”
She added: “Cunningham has been dealt with swiftly and will hopefully reflect on his actions. We take all hate crimes extremely seriously. Our specially trained officers pursue robust action against offenders.”
Victim Praised for Quick Thinking
The victim did the right thing by immediately contacting the police, who acted fast to bring Cunningham to justice.
Along with his jail sentence, Cunningham will pay compensation to the victim – a clear message that hate-fuelled violence won’t be tolerated.
