Murder Victim Named in Dagenham Hit-and-Run Horror
Detectives have identified the victim of a shocking hit-and-run in Dagenham. John Avers, 47, was fatally struck in a car park on Whalebone Lane South late Sunday night.
Man Found Dead After Collision
Police were called at 11.43pm on 13 September following reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian. Paramedics rushed to the scene, but John was pronounced dead shortly after police arrival.
A post-mortem revealed John died from multiple injuries.
Homicide Probe Underway
The Met’s Specialist Crime Command are treating the case as murder. Detective Chief Inspector Mark Wrigley, leading the inquiry, said:
“My thoughts are with John’s family at this very sad time. I and my officers believe John was deliberately harmed and we are treating this incident as a murder inquiry. We are using every available tactic to trace who was responsible for John’s death.”
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Detectives believe the driver fled the scene after deliberately hitting John. Officers are urging anyone who saw or heard anything to come forward.
“If you know anything at all about this horrible crime, please don’t keep it to yourself. If you don’t want to talk to us, you can speak to Crimestoppers anonymously. The most important thing you can do is share what you know.”
No arrests have been made so far.
