In a recent incident at the Port of Dover, that too place on Wednesday morning. The Port of Dover Police intercepted a caravan that had been improperly converted for use as a substitute trailer. The caravan was discovered to be heavily overloaded, with its weight exceeding safe limits by a staggering 95%. The vehicle’s tires were observed to be running on the side wall, indicating severe strain, while the overall structure of the caravan was found to be compromised.
The Port of Dover Police, responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the port, acted swiftly upon noticing the dangerous condition of the caravan. Officers reported the incident and issued a PG9 notice, which is typically used to highlight severe safety concerns and initiate appropriate action.
Upon closer inspection, it was revealed that the caravan had been modified with homemade straps bolted onto its walls, presumably in an attempt to reinforce its weakened structure. However, these makeshift measures were deemed inadequate, further exacerbating the safety risks associated with the vehicle.
