RNAS Culdrose’s 824 Naval Air Squadron has welcomed a new commanding officer. In a formal ceremony, Cdr Chris Jones handed over command to Cdr Alex Kelley, who then addressed the assembled men and women of the Merlin helicopter squadron.
[block_2]Cdr Kelley, who joined the Royal Navy in 2005, brings a wealth of experience to the role. She trained as an observer on the Merlin Mk1 before converting to the Mk2, the current aircraft in use. A former instructor and senior observer at 824 NAS, Cdr Kelley is well-acquainted with the squadron, which is responsible for training helicopter aircrew and air engineers while also playing a frontline role in protecting UK waters.
