RNAS Culdrose’s 824 Naval Air Squadron has welcomed a new commanding officer. In a formal ceremony, Cdr Chris Jones handed over command to Cdr Alex Kelley, who then addressed the assembled men and women of the Merlin helicopter squadron.

Cdr Kelley, who joined the Royal Navy in 2005, brings a wealth of experience to the role. She trained as an observer on the Merlin Mk1 before converting to the Mk2, the current aircraft in use. A former instructor and senior observer at 824 NAS, Cdr Kelley is well-acquainted with the squadron, which is responsible for training helicopter aircrew and air engineers while also playing a frontline role in protecting UK waters.
