The Met Office has issued new yellow weather warnings for snow and ice, extending across large parts of the UK. With wintry showers leading to icy conditions, parts of Scotland, northern England, eastern England, the South West, and the East Midlands are urged to prepare for potential hazards.
The Current Situation
Snow has already been reported in northern England, leading to road closures and disruptions, including a stranded bus in Yorkshire. The weather warnings, which are in place until 11 am on Friday, anticipate further snowfall and icy conditions that could impact roads and railways.
Detailed Weather Forecast
According to the Met Office, showers will continue to affect northern and eastern Scotland and eastern England, with snow expected to fall inland from the Humber northwards. Accumulations of up to 2cm are possible, potentially reaching 5cm over higher ground. In southern areas, snow is more likely to be confined to higher elevations.

A separate yellow weather warning is in effect for areas like Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, and Somerset, starting from 3 am to 4 pm on Thursday. Northern Ireland is also under a yellow warning until 10 am Thursday, with icy conditions predicted.
Temperature Drop
Daytime temperatures are expected to stay in the single digits, with nights likely remaining below freezing in many parts of England and Scotland.
Travel Advisories and Safety
North Yorkshire Police have already warned motorists of road closures due to snow and ice. Gritters and plows are being deployed to clear affected roads. Coatham Coaches, operating between Guisborough and Whitby, advises caution as they assess routes for their school and college services.
