Machete-Wielding Gang Targets Victims on Mopeds and E-Bikes
On Monday evening, a group of four to five men, wearing balaclavas and riding mopeds and e-bikes, descended on Wolesley Avenue. They tried to snatch a man’s e-bike at around 5.05pm. When the victim resisted, one attacker brandished a machete, but the gang fled, leaving the bike behind.
Knife Assault in Kingswood Avenue
Just over an hour later, at 6.15pm, the violence escalated. A 15-year-old boy was struck with a blade — believed to be a machete — on Kingswood Avenue. Thankfully, his injuries were not life-threatening. Two suspects dressed in black sped off on an electric bike and a moped.
Police Crackdown: Section 60 Stop and Search Powers Enforced
Officers arrested two males, aged 18 and 14, who are now in custody. To tackle the rising violence, police have activated a Section 60 order in parts of Park North, Park South, Walcot, Nythe, and Eldene. This gives cops the authority to stop and search anyone without needing usual grounds until 5am on 17 March. They can also demand that suspects remove face coverings for identification.
