Damaged Car Found Abandoned Near Sports Ground

The very next day, police found a small hatchback abandoned in a sports ground car park at the end of Darenth Avenue. The car had obvious damage and is believed to be linked to the fatal collision.

Officers now believe several people were nearby when the car entered the car park. They are keen to speak to anyone who may have been there.

Police Appeal for Witnesses With Camera Phones

“It was a warm summer evening and the area is popular for socialising,” said PC Dawn Smith of Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

“We know at least one person stood by the car park entrance near the metal height restriction. We believe they were taking photos on their phone, possibly selfies, as the damaged car passed by.”

“If you were in the area or know someone who was, please come forward. Even the smallest detail could be crucial.”

A local man in his 30s was arrested on 7 August on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains on bail as investigations continue.
