Eastbourne RNLI Lifeboat Crews Busy With Three Dramatic Call-Outs In 24 Hours
Eastbourne’s RNLI volunteer crew were kept on their toes with three urgent missions between Monday night and Tuesday afternoon.
Monday Night Rescue: Speedboat Abandoned at Sea
At 10pm on June 13th, the crew scrambled to launch the inshore lifeboat, joining local coastguards, an ambulance, and the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter for a secretive incident. No details have been revealed due to the sensitive nature of the call.
Then, just 90 minutes later, they were called out again after members of the public spotted an object floating offshore. Upon arrival, volunteers found a small speedboat partially submerged. Luckily, no one was aboard. The crew towed the stricken vessel back to the station before refuelling and prepping the lifeboat.
False Alarm Buoy and Lighthouse Incident on Tuesday
The action continued the next day. At 1:25pm on June 14th, the lifeboat launched once more to investigate reports of an object in the water. It turned out to be nothing more threatening than a fishing marker buoy. The call was a false alarm but made in good faith.
Later at 2:40pm, the crew received another urgent page to assist police, coastguards, and the rescue helicopter with an incident east of the iconic Belle Tout Lighthouse. Details of this latest call remain under wraps.
Eastbourne RNLI volunteers remain ready and vigilant, putting their lives on the line to keep the local coastline safe.
