The M4 is closed westbound in Wiltshire following a fire involving a heavy goods vehicle, with motorists warned to expect delays.

The closure is in place between Junction 14 at Hungerford and Junction 15 near Marlborough and Swindon.

Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service initially attended the incident.

National Highways has advised drivers affected by the closure to follow the signed diversion route using the hollow square symbol displayed on local road signs.

Diversion route

Traffic should leave the M4 at Junction 14 and take the first exit onto the A338.

After approximately three miles, drivers should turn right at the A4 mini-roundabout towards Hungerford, avoiding the town centre.

At the next roundabout, motorists should take the second exit into Charnham Park, then turn right onto the B4192.

Drivers should follow the B4192 for approximately 13 miles through Aldbourne to the A419 roundabout, take the first exit and continue on the A419 to rejoin the M4 westbound at Junction 15.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and follow updates from National Highways.
