Illegal Worming Tablets Seized at East Midlands Airport
Customs officers at East Midlands Airport have intercepted a shipment of unauthorised worming tablets for pets. The haul was uncovered by a courier firm operating out of the airport depot.
108 Boxes from Bulgaria Confiscated
The suspicious package, sent from Bulgaria and addressed to a home in Shropshire, contained Biheldon tablets. These are worming meds designed for dogs and cats but are not authorised for use in the UK.
Strict Regulations Halt Unapproved Pet Meds
The Veterinary Medicines Directorate swiftly seized the 108 boxes under the Veterinary Medicines Regulations 2013. The crackdown under Regulation 25(1) targets the illegal importation of veterinary drugs that don’t meet UK safety standards.
“Ensuring veterinary medicines are safe and effective is vital to protect animal health,” said officials overseeing the operation.
Warning to Pet Owners and Importers
This seizure highlights the risks posed by unauthorised animal medicines and the government’s zero-tolerance stance. Authorities are doubling down on enforcement to stop illegal imports and safeguard animal welfare across the UK.
