Shocking Theft: Pensioner Targeted in Blyth Morrisons
CCTV caught the moment an 85-year-old pensioner was robbed inside Blyth Morrisons at around 2.30pm on March 27. The elderly woman was bending down to pick up fruit when a woman snatched her trolley – and disappeared.
Thief Pushed Pram, Escaped Alone
The suspect, described as a 50s/60s woman with greying brown cropped hair, wore a khaki jacket and grey joggers. She entered the store pushing a pram with a toddler but left solo. Two younger females who arrived soon after may have been involved.
Stolen Trolley Left Stripped, Cards Used at Local Shop
Morrisons staff later found the trolley bag dumped outside – but all valuables were gone. That same day, the stolen cards were used by a younger woman at the Premier store on Waterloo Road, Blyth to buy scratch cards and cigarettes before being declined.
Police Appeal for Help to Catch Callous Thief
“To steal from anyone is unacceptable but to prey on an elderly woman while her back is turned is absolutely disgusting,” said a Northumbria Police spokesperson. “This thief has robbed a vulnerable pensioner not only of her belongings but also her independence and sense of safety.”
“We’ve run extensive checks but have yet to identify the woman. We urge the public to come forward with any information.”
