In a massive clampdown on Channel migrant smugglers, German cops have seized 11 boats, an engine, and a stash of inner tubes. The swoop on 25 March hit the smuggling ring hard, Europol confirmed.
Cross-Border Raids Nab Four Suspects
The crackdown targeted 14 locations – 12 in Germany and two in Belgium. Four suspected organisers, all Syrian nationals, were arrested. This follows earlier arrests of 17 accomplices across Belgium, France, Germany, and the Netherlands, as part of a wide probe into the criminal network.
Profiting from Peril: Smugglers Sell Deadly Channel Crossing Gear
The ruthless gang, run by Iraqi-Kurdish and Syrian operatives, trafficked equipment for hazardous small boat crossings. Inflatable boats, engines, pumps, fuel containers, and tyre inner tubes were shipped from Asia via Türkiye to Germany and sold for over €10,000 per package. These were then funnelled to networks in northern France.
- Packages included boats, engines, pumps, fuel, and inner tubes.
- Shockingly, tyre inner tubes were used by migrants in place of life jackets.
