Thames Valley Police are in full chase mode after Darnell Smith, 27, made a bold escape from HMP Springhill, an open prison close to Grendon Underwood. The fugitive slipped away around 11:30am on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, without permission, sparking a desperate search.

Who Is Darnell Smith?

Smith stands about 5ft 8ins with a medium build and was last seen dressed all in black. The dangerous convict has strong connections to Surrey, Sussex, Croydon, and Plumstead in London.
