Man Brutally Attacked in Camberley – Police Hunt Hate Crime Suspects
Police are hunting three men after a violent attack on a man in his 20s in Camberley. The victim was assaulted in the early hours of 22 May after a shocking hate-fuelled rampage.
Assault on Mini Roundabout After Request for Lighter
Officers were called at around 1.30am following reports that the victim had been attacked near the mini roundabout linking Southwell Park Road and Park Street. The man had left home just after midnight and was assaulted after asking the suspects for a lighter.
The attackers hurled verbal abuse before striking him, leaving the victim with a nasty 3cm cut to the top of his head and causing him to lose consciousness.
Suspects Described – Police Treat Incident as Hate Crime
- Three white men, aged mid-20s to early 30s
- One wore a baseball cap, pale jeans, and a pale top
The victim attended hospital but has since been discharged. DC Anne Simpson confirmed the investigation is being treated as a hate crime due to the abuse before the attack.
“We are asking people to get in touch if they saw or heard anything around the Atrium between 12.30am and 1.15am,” said DC Simpson. “Any info – even seeing three suspicious men before or after the assault – could help.”
Police Pledge to Crack Down on Hate Crime
Inspector Bob Darkens, Borough Commander for Surrey Heath, reassured the local community:
“Hate crime of any kind will not be tolerated. If you’re a victim, please report it. We will hunt down the perpetrators, arrest them, and bring them to justice. Incidents like this are thankfully rare but even one is one too many.”
