Ghost to Enforce Phone Ban at O2 Arena Gig for ‘Phone-Free Experience’

Concertgoers heading to London’s O2 Arena this weekend to see Swedish rock band Ghost are being warned — leave your phones in your pockets. The band has introduced a strict phone ban for their upcoming show on Saturday, April 19, as part of their ongoing Skeletour world tour.

Fans attending the highly anticipated performance will experience what organisers are calling a “phone-free experience,” with the use of mobile phones, cameras, and recording devices strictly prohibited in the main performance space. The policy is designed to encourage audience members to be fully present during the show.

Phones Locked in Pouches

According to the O2 Arena’s official event page, guests will be required to place their phones in Yondr pouches — magnetic, lockable cases used to restrict phone access during events.

“This show will be a phone-free experience,” the venue stated.
“Phones will be secured in Yondr pouches. Guests maintain possession of their phones at all times.”

Fans with medical needs that require mobile device access will be accommodated, according to the venue. Additional instructions are expected to be sent to ticketholders closer to the event.

Fan Reactions: A Welcome Change

Despite the ban on taking photos or videos, many Ghost fans are embracing the move. On Reddit, one fan wrote: “Great move! All other artists should do the same.” Another added: “So excited for it. I yearn for the true concert experience where my fellow ghoulies are dialed in and where I don’t have to watch the concert through a thousand tiny screens held up in front of my face.”

The band’s decision taps into a growing trend in live entertainment, where artists aim to create more immersive and distraction-free environments for their audiences.

The Ghost Experience at the O2

Ghost’s theatrical performances and elaborate stage presence are at the heart of their global appeal, and the phone-free policy is part of an effort to preserve that magic. By cutting out the screens, the band hopes to deliver a more intimate and impactful concert experience.

The O2 Arena will provide designated areas for phone use outside of the main performance space, and fans will be able to unlock their pouches if needed.

Looking Ahead

The April 19 show is expected to draw thousands of fans, with Ghost continuing their Skeletour across Europe. For those attending, it’s not just about the music — it’s about being fully present in the moment.
