A much-loved charity supporting people with disabilities in Barnsley has once again fallen victim to theft, leaving staff and volunteers devastated.
Barnsley Riding for the Disabled (RDA), which provides therapeutic horse riding sessions for individuals with physical and emotional challenges, was targeted in a brazen theft on Sunday evening, shortly after the centre had closed for the day.
A spokesperson from Barnsley RDA said:
“It’s heartbreaking to see our centre targeted again. We work hard to provide a safe, supportive environment for those who benefit so much from our sessions. Every theft is not just a financial blow—it’s an emotional one too.”

Barnsley RDA offers a lifeline for many in the local community, delivering life-enhancing experiences for individuals with disabilities through interaction with horses. The services they provide offer therapeutic benefits that improve both physical coordination and mental wellbeing.

Following last year’s break-in, Mayor of Barnsley John Clarke donated £1,000 to help the centre implement enhanced security measures. But despite the improvements, the charity continues to be a target.
Police Appeal for Information
South Yorkshire Police have confirmed they are investigating the latest theft and are appealing for any information from the public.
A police spokesperson said:
“We are urging anyone who may have seen suspicious activity near the centre or who has information about the stolen equipment to get in touch. Even the smallest detail could help with our enquiries.”
