Chaos on A22 After Two-Car Smash Leaves Driver Trapped
Drivers on the A22 between East Grinstead and Forest Row are stuck in gridlock after a nasty collision involving a black Range Rover Sport and a white Mercedes Sprinter van.
Terrifying Crash Traps Van Driver
The Range Rover slammed into the Sprinter, which then crashed into a lamppost, trapping the van driver inside. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, including fire teams from Forest Row, East Grinstead, Lewis, and a technical rescue unit from Battle.
Rescue Teams Cut Driver Free
Firefighters used specialist extrication tools to remove the van’s doors and even deployed a platform to cut the driver’s door. The trapped driver was freed and rushed to East Grinstead hospital with serious leg injuries.
Road Closures and Huge Delays
- Police closed the A22 between Priory Road and Wall Hill Road in both directions.
- Recovery teams removed both wrecked vehicles, but traffic remains slow.
- Drivers are urged to find alternative routes to avoid the jam.
UPDATE 5:25pm: The vehicles have been cleared, but heavy traffic and delays persist as commuters seek other roads.
