Chaos on A22 After Two-Car Smash Leaves Driver Trapped

Drivers on the A22 between East Grinstead and Forest Row are stuck in gridlock after a nasty collision involving a black Range Rover Sport and a white Mercedes Sprinter van.

Terrifying Crash Traps Van Driver

The Range Rover slammed into the Sprinter, which then crashed into a lamppost, trapping the van driver inside. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, including fire teams from Forest Row, East Grinstead, Lewis, and a technical rescue unit from Battle.

Rescue Teams Cut Driver Free

Firefighters used specialist extrication tools to remove the van’s doors and even deployed a platform to cut the driver’s door. The trapped driver was freed and rushed to East Grinstead hospital with serious leg injuries.

Road Closures and Huge Delays

  • Police closed the A22 between Priory Road and Wall Hill Road in both directions.
  • Recovery teams removed both wrecked vehicles, but traffic remains slow.
  • Drivers are urged to find alternative routes to avoid the jam.

UPDATE 5:25pm: The vehicles have been cleared, but heavy traffic and delays persist as commuters seek other roads.
