A chilling murder case unfolded after a couple drove over 50 miles with two young kids in tow to confront a business associate over unpaid debts, a court heard. Ben Wazabanga, 24, and Ronique Belfon, 23, are on trial for the stabbing death of 26-year-old Ayowale Aladejana outside his South London home on Monson Road, New Cross. The victim was involved in a “business arrangement gone sour” with the pair.
Hunting Knife Used in Deadly Confrontation
Southwark Crown Court was told how Wazabanga allegedly armed himself with a hunting knife before setting off from Bedford with Belfon and two small children aged one and two in the back seat. The trip ended in tragedy on August 2, 2025.
“He stabbed him in the chest, piercing his heart. Mr Wazabanga used a knife which he had brought to the scene,” prosecutor James Brown KC revealed.
The court heard the couple confronted Mr Aladejana not intending to kill, but to settle a financial dispute. Belfon knew Wazabanga was armed, it was said.
Car Rental Scheme Turns Deadly
Victim Ayowale Aladejana had started car rental firm A2M2, with Wazabanga and Belfon as investors. Wazabanga contributed funds for car repairs, while Belfon took out finance on two Mercedes for the business. Problems arose when Aladejana reportedly failed to repay the car finance, pushing Belfon into debt and damaging her credit score. Around April 2025, Aladejana handed all the rental vehicles to another firm, deepening the dispute. He even told his girlfriend, Katelyn Edwards, he was “in too much debt” and owed money to people, including the couple. Texts from Belfon to Aladejana and Edwards begged for the return of her cars, calling the entire setup “a mess” and “causing unnecessary stress.”
Trial Underway as Couple Deny Murder
Both Wazabanga and Belfon, who appeared in court on Tuesday, deny murder charges. Wazabanga wore a blue sweatshirt and joggers, while Belfon was in a black and white dress. The trial continues as the court examines the fatal fallout of a business deal turned deadly.
