Covid-19 Isn’t Going Anywhere – Sussex Police Step Up
Covid-19 remains a serious threat, and Sussex Police say everyone must play their part in fighting it. The force is ramping up efforts alongside local communities to stop the virus spreading across Sussex.
New Rules Hit Bars, Pubs, and Restaurants
This week, the government rolled out fresh clampdowns. Face masks are mandatory once more, and nightlife faces a strict 10pm curfew. Plus, there’s an even tighter grip on the ‘rule of six’ gatherings. You can check the full regulations here.
Police Out in Force to Enforce and Educate
Sussex’s police officers and PCSOs are hitting the streets. Their mission: explain the new laws and encourage people to stick to the rules.
“The vast majority of people do follow the law and government guidance,” said Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Jayne Dando, who heads local policing. “When officers speak to the public, people generally respond positively and change their behaviour.”
But Dando warns: “Those who flaunt the rules and endanger others face fines.” Over the last month, Sussex Police have handed out three fines for not wearing masks on public transport and two for breaking self-isolation rules.
Police Demand Public Cooperation to Keep Sussex Safe
With crime levels back to normal, the police can’t afford distractions. “Our priority is public safety,” Dando said. “People must take personal responsibility so officers can focus on tackling crime and supporting vulnerable communities.”
If you witness serious Covid rule breaches, report it on the force’s online form. Dial 999 only for emergencies.
