The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team raced to Brook Beach on the Isle of Wight after a member of the public spotted what’s believed to be unexploded ordnance. The emergency call came just after 1pm on Tuesday, sparking a frantic search against the incoming tide.

Urgent Hunt for Hidden Bomb

The team scrambled immediately, trying to pinpoint the dangerous device, supposedly buried under shingle and fast being swallowed by the sea. Despite a 40-minute effort, the suspicious object was lost beneath the tide – raising fears it could still pose a deadly threat.

Coastguard Warns Public: Stay Alert

“Although on this occasion, the device has been covered over, it could still pose a threat,” said a Coastguard Rescue Team spokesman. “The incident will continue to be treated seriously until experts locate and examine the item.”

Further Search Uncovers Ordnance Near Chale Beach

After a tip-off about a second location, the team moved 150 metres along a steep cliff face close to Chale Beach. There, they finally found the ordnance, ramping up safety concerns for locals and visitors alike.
