Serial Attacker Jailed for 17 Years After Terrifying Women in Greenwich
Alan Green Caught and Convicted
Alan Green, 39, from Thanington Court, SE9, has been locked up for 17 years after attacking two women in separate horrifying incidents in Greenwich. The Woolwich Crown Court found him guilty on multiple counts, including rape and digital penetration, linked to assaults in Blackheath and Tunnel Avenue during 2019. He also received a four-year extended licence.
Early Morning Attack on Blackheath Common
On 9 March 2019, a woman in her 50s was walking across Blackheath Common around 4.30am when she spotted Green sitting on a bench with a bike. Thinking nothing of it, she continued — until he suddenly got up, pushed her to the ground, and attempted to rape her before cycling off. The terrified victim fought back, trying to retrieve her bag, then alerted her colleagues who called the police.
Second Brutal Assault at Tunnel Avenue
Only months later, on 2 June 2019 at 2am, a woman in her 20s was on the phone near a footbridge by Tunnel Avenue, SE10, when Green approached, grabbed her, and dragged her into a bush. Despite her struggles, he raped her three times before fleeing on his bike. The victim escaped and reported the ordeal to police.
Police Praise Victims’ Bravery as Green Is Brought to Justice
Forensic evidence linked Green to both attacks. He was arrested at his home on 19 June 2019 and chose to remain silent during interviews. Detective Constable Andrew Sumpter said: “Green is clearly a dangerous offender and we are pleased he will now be behind bars for a significant period of time. The two women subject to his attacks will never be able to forget what happened to them last year and we want to commend their bravery in supporting this lengthy investigation.”
