Knife-Wielding Robber Nabbed and Locked Up for Nine Years
A man who terrorised a woman at knifepoint has been taken off the streets and slapped with a nine-year jail sentence. Edward Diorgu, 25, staged a chilling robbery in Harlow last May.
Knife Threat and £500 Stolen
On the evening of 19 May, Diorgu showed up at a Harlow address around 9.20pm. Without warning, he whipped out a knife, threatened the woman, and demanded cash. He ransacked wardrobes and handbags, grabbing £500 before leaving after finding no more money.
Caught Red-Handed and Convicted
Police found Diorgu’s fingerprints on the victim’s bag and wardrobe doors. He was also identified by phone and a formal ID by the victim. Diorgu, from London’s N17, was arrested in September last year.
Judge Sends Dangerous Mugger Down for Nine Years
Following a trial at Chelmsford Crown Court, Diorgu was found guilty of robbery and possessing a bladed weapon. On 9 October, he was sentenced to nine years behind bars.
Detective Constable Alana McCreath said: “Edward Diorgu subjected the victim to a terrifying ordeal, threatening her with a knife. He attended the address armed and intent on robbing her, showing no regard for her safety. Diorgu is clearly a dangerous man who will spend the foreseeable future behind bars. Essex is safer with him off the streets, and I hope this sentence helps the victim move forward.”
