Chelsea Rapist Jailed for 19 Years After Targeting Sex Workers
A predatory man who attacked five female sex workers has been locked up for 19 years. Sajad Jamalvatan, 25, from Beaufort Street, Chelsea, was convicted of raping five women between August and October 2019. He now faces an additional five years on license after his brutal spree.
Met Police Crack Down After Year-Long Investigation
The lengthy probe by the Met’s Central West Basic Command Unit finally caught Jamalvatan after a 14-day trial at Isleworth Crown Court. Detectives used specialist forensics, analysed hours of CCTV, and extracted crucial evidence from his phone. They even persuaded a key Brazilian victim, who had fled the UK, to return and give testimony.
Officers collaborated closely with the charity National Ugly Mugs, which supports sex workers and helped uncover the full extent of Jamalvatan’s crimes.
Deceptive Tactics to Lure and Attack Vulnerable Women
Jamalvatan would reach out to sex workers via escort websites, arranging meetings mostly at his Chelsea flat. Once inside, he faked payments on his banking app to lure the women into a false sense of security. When victims tried to escape, he overpowered and violently assaulted them, silencing their screams by covering their mouths.
One victim endured an hour-long ordeal, during which Jamalvatan claimed he was “not a bad person” and blamed Class A drugs for his violence. He insisted it was the first time he had ever committed such an act — claims flatly rejected by the court.
Police and Charity Call for More Victims to Step Forward
“Jamalvatan saw the women he targeted as unworthy of respect, and tried to discredit their reports,” said Detective Constable James Drummond. “He lied throughout the investigation, pretending to be a PhD student caring for family — a complete fabrication.”
“He is now a registered sex offender for life, banned from contacting sex workers under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. The damage he caused is unimaginable, but we hope this sentence gives victims some peace.”
“We urge any other victims to come forward. We have specially trained officers and partners ready to support you.”
National Ugly Mugs praised the bravery of the victims: “Few sex workers report violence due to risk and discrimination. Our mission is to end all violence against sex workers. We stand with survivors and offer the tools they need to stay safe.”
