Telford Man Locked Up for Brutal Murder of 23-Year-Old
Robert Wieczorkowski, 32, from Hurleybrook Way, Telford, has been sentenced to 18 years behind bars for the chilling murder of Dawid Kurdziel.
The Stafford Crown Court handed down the jail term today, Thursday 19 May, after Wieczorkowski was found guilty of stabbing Kurdziel to death at Ketley Recreation Ground on 3 July 2021.
Fatal Stabbing After Night of Drinking
Following a night of drinking, Wieczorkowski smashed a glass bottle and stabbed the 23-year-old Kurdziel in the neck. The wound caused fatal blood loss.
Wieczorkowski fled the scene but was eventually tracked down and arrested in Handsworth, Birmingham, on 14 August after a widespread appeal to find him.
Despite denying any wrongdoing, he was convicted on Wednesday 11 May at Stafford Crown Court.
Detective Slams Killer’s Lack of Remorse
“Robert Wieczorkowski has not shown any remorse for his horrendous act,” said Detective Inspector Lee Holehouse.
“He went on the run across the UK to dodge responsibility but was caught in Birmingham. He claimed self-defence, insisting he never intended to kill or seriously harm Mr Kurdziel. The jury rejected this defence and justice has been served.”
“I want to thank everyone who came forward, especially the Polish community whose key information helped secure this conviction. Our thoughts are with Dawid Kurdziel’s family, who have shown quiet dignity throughout.”
